Amazon Software Design Engineer Job Interview

Company: Amazon, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Design Engineer

I was a little surprised by Amazon. But before I get to that, a bit of advice that I’ve seen other places, but I can’t stress enough: make sure you get to the right part of the right street in downtown Seattle, it makes all the difference.

Anyway, Amazon put me up in a real nice place downtown, probably the nicest I’ve stayed in for an interview. Unfortunately since my Microsoft interview went so late I had a hard time finding the type of food I wanted by the time I made it to my hotel. I ......

Microsoft SDET Job Interview

Company: Microsoft, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Design Engineer in Test

My Microsoft interview didn’t get the best start. My flight to Denver was delayed, so I ended up not making it to Seattle until around 10 p.m., making for a pretty late night. After finally making it to my hotel, I ironed my clothes and tried to get some sleep.

Microsoft starts their interviews early. 8 a.m. early. I’m not too much of a morning person, but I managed to get awake and put together with plenty of time. Microsoft has a lobby just for interview candidates, including a Micorsoft Surface demo unit and a 360 with ......

Lutron - Very interesting and thorough

Company: Lutron, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Very interesting interview process for a very interesting company.

Five or six interviews, including technical, brainstorming, roleplay, and more traditional stuff. It was pretty heavy, but the people I met with were willing to work with me, it was like a dialogue and very natural.

Met a lot of different people at the firm, and got the impression that Lutron was a very progressive private company with a lot of potential.

Learned a lot, great interview practice, highly recommended....

EE Internship

Company: Lockheed Martin, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Technical Intern

I had an interview with Lockheed as an EE college student at the Syracuse, NY facility. I had four interviews, three with actual engineering/software managers and one with HR. The HR one was the easiest - all behavioral. Make sure you know why you want to work for LM. The engineering interviews were simple - nothing technical. Being the nerd that I am, I started to review the basics of EE that I needed to know, as well as some CS. That included RLC circuits, signals and systems coursework, circuits work, and data structures using C++. You don't need to ......

Design Engineer Job at AMD

Company: AMD, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Design Engineer

The interview with AMD was extremely technical, as AMD as a workforce is very technical and very academic. Grades matter a lot, as does a detailed understanding of the subject matter. The position I was interviewing for was a VLSI design job, so my questions focused on the area of VLSI, etc. It's very important to AMD that all college grads they hire are very technical, very skilled, and are very excited about the field. So to prove this you need to focus on a few areas.

1. Technical Knowledge: Study the course material in detail for everything ......

Job at Accenture

Company: Accenture, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Programmer

I'm a Computer Science major and this interview was for an entry-level programming job at Accenture. I'm not sure how similar my experience would be to those interviewing for consulting positions, but Accenture is definitely set on breaking down your "problem-solving skills." That sounds cliche, but they're really gonna harp on that throughout the interviews to really see how you face difficult problems and logically step through them trying to find a solution. Since my interview was for a programming job they obviously want to know about my specific technical skills as well (in my case C++ and C). I ......

My Interview with Google

Company: Google, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Engineer

"Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing with Google. It was very exciting, as I’ve wanted to work for Google for quite some time, and they opened up a branch near my home through an acquisition recently. I’ve had to sign an NDA, so I’m going to be pretty careful about what I share in this post. Hopefully I’m not shooting myself in the foot here. Because I’m not in California, I had to go through two phone interviews first. The questions Google asks are pretty interesting for a number of reasons. I think the best word I could use ......

An Interview with Microsoft

Company: Microsoft, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Design Engineer

On Feb 10, 2006 I had my interview with Microsoft for the position of Software Design Engineer (SDE). I submitted my resume when they came to my campus (Univ. of Maryland, Baltimore County) last September and had an interview with them in October and got the on-site interview call. I went to interview totally unprepared, not knowing what to expect. People told me about famous puzzles and linked list questions that they usually ask. I was lazy and didnt prepare much. I just read a bit of "Programming Interviews Exposed" and did a few problems from the net. I also ......

Amazon Work Experience

Company: Amazon, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Engineer

I was contacted by the sales and operations planning (s&op) team at amazon.com at the beginning of 2002. after speaking with them by phone, i decided that it sounded interesting, but not my main interest. then, the pick 2-pizza team spoke with me about being a software engineer on their team. it sounded interesting, but i didn’t want to develop software anymore — at least not full-time. I thought for sure that amazon.com would say “forget that guy” by now, but they didn’t. i was invited to interview with the folks at the fulfillment center. i met with the gm ......

My Interview and Job Offer from Google

Company: Google, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Engineer

Back in october 2005, i interviewed with google, for a position with google print. my interview was over 2 days, on 10/12/2005 and 10/13/2005. i didn’t do much to prepare for the interview, except read-up on all the google print controversy regarding the n lawsuits against google print. unlike most companies that fly their candidates out for an onsite interview, google’s policy was for me to pay for my flight, hotel, and food, but that they would reimburse me later. i thought that was lame and unprofessional; after all, they are the ones that contacted me for an interview and ......

Cattle call

Company: Putnam Investment, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Systems Engineer

I went to a open house they had. Ya you know it, it was a cattle call. They guy who interviewed me looked VERY stressed out and was walking on egg shells. I talked about a project I did and how important ROI was (return on investment). He let out a huge sigh and said yes. The way he talked it sounded like each department fought each other and no one did things on their own. There was procedures for everything. Over all I would have to say it sounded like a stuffy place to work....

They found my resume on a job board. The person who called me was based in California. They looked at my resume and wasn’t sure of where they would put me because they had multiple openings and I fit quite a few of them. I was interviewed for a TS position. The place had super tight security. I had to show a ID to someone behind glass, was given a visitor badge and the interview was in a room off of reception. The first part was two guys and they told me how great of a company was and I ......

My Microsoft Job Interview

Company: Microsoft, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Software Design Engineer in Test

Executive Summary..... Interviewing is time consuming, tiring, and a lot of work. But the reward for doing well is a full time job. Treat this experience as a challenge towards something prolific ahead. My only advice would be to keep up the spirits till you actually find what you perfectly blend into. I would always rate my experience in interviewing for microsoft as the perhaps the most thought provoking and a great learning experience. What else? Be well prepared, study hard. Buy books. Talk to friends. Aggressively pursue interview opportunities. They rarely come to you. Make sure you can perform well ......

MIT Lincoln Labs EE Job

Company: MIT Lincoln Labs, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Electrical Engineer

I interviewed for an electrical engineering role at MIT Lincoln Lab. The position would have mostly involved DSP work and algorithms. It was almost a software position they were really looking for, but a lot of the theoretical side of DSP and algorithmic approaches to solving problems applied enough so that they considered me for the role. As expected, this is an extremely academic place. It's not the place to go if you're looking to go into management or marketing, or a business type role eventually. It's mostly for people that are really interested in their academic area, definitely have ......

Lutron Electrical Engineer Interview

Company: Lutron, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Electrical Engineer

This was an on-campus interview for an internship. Lutron does a variety of high-tech lighting, including some large cathedrals, vegas hotels, etc. The internship would have involved various circuit design activity, I guess a little bit of analog, digital, embedded systems, some type of mix. They didn't give a lot of specifics so I'm guessing it would have been support work for a main engineer there, but good for internship experience. Most of the questions were brain teaser-type questions, including one that was about a light bulb, surprise, since it's a lighting company. Sounded like he wanted to hear me ......

Merrill Lynch Business Analyst Interview

Company: Merrill Lynch, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Business Analyst

This was an interview for a lightly experienced role (I had 2 years of experience). I interviewed for a Business Analyst role in the IT department at Merrill Lynch, specifically working in one of the risk groups. My job would have been to talk to internal clients and gather their requirements for software systems, then document the requirements and do a little bit of high level design before passing it off to the software developers. I had a technical background from college and some similar experience, however, this particular role was a little more detailed in software and databases than ......

Business Analyst

Company: JPMorgan Chase, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Business Analyst

This was an interview for a Business Analyst position. The job is gathering software requirements from internal clients about new products, then being the intermediary between the clients and the programmers, ensuring that the programmers develop software that meets the clients' needs. I have a technical background, though not a lot of experience in software (my background is Electrical Engineering). This seemed to be good enough for this group. Their main focus seemed to be on how I dealt with people, how I composed myself, and how I seemed to approach problems. There weren't a lot of technical-type questions. Most ......

Lockheed Martin Moorestown, NJ Electrical Engineer

Company: Lockheed Martin, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Systems Engineer

I interviewed for a Systems Engineer position at Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, NJ (about half an hour outside Philadelphia). I had 1.5 years of job experience in a semiconductor company in a role that was a mix of business and technical work. I interviewed with two managers from two different teams, the groups worked on very different projects but the job role was about the same. There were very few technical questions. It was mostly conversational, asking about my background, my job experience and my educational background, why I would be interested in Lockheed and very importantly why I wanted ......

Interview for an internship at Sandia National Labs in Livermore, CA. I was interviewing for an electrical engineering position in one of the groups that does a lot of circuit and system-level design (mixed technology with DSP, Embedded Systems, Programming, Analog Design), the group does most types of Electrical Engineering. You get exposure to a lot of different fields within EE. The interview itself was pretty laid back.

Lockheed Martin Syracuse - Elec Engineer

Company: Lockheed Martin, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Electrical Engineer

I interviewed for a position at Lockheed Martin in Syracuse (MS2, Maritime Systems and Sensors). The position was in the ELDP program (Engineering Leadership Development Program). If given an offer you join the company, mostly working on radar-related work, and go to school at Syracuse part time to get a Masters in Engineering (paid for by Lockheed). It's a pretty good program if you're focused on what you want to do and know this is the right route. Borg Warner Interview Ithaca NY

Company: Borg Warner, Job Type: Engineering-Tech, Job Title: Intern

I interviewed for an internship at Borg Warner in Ithaca, NY. I'm an electrical engineer and the company does mostly manufacturing for auto parts so the electrical engineering side would be working with the electronics that control the assembly lines, etc. The interview itself was pretty smooth and not very difficult. There weren't any technical questions as my interviewer was from HR and was mostly interested in my basic credentials, courses, GPA, etc. Once he saw that I could act confidently in an interview, speak intelligently but at a high level about technical projects I worked on, etc., he said ......

The job was going to be working on audio amplifiers, etc., and doing beginning level circuit design and testing. I think I had all the credentials for the position but didn't quite prepare well enough to answer their technical questions. I had worked on a project earlier where I designed a Class D Audio Amplifier and an H-Bridge, which perfectly tied in with what bose does.
